So what I am thinking is should I just get some LOSP DAR and fix it to the sides of the trusses at 600cts, or is there another way to do it if the trusses are at 900 cts. But with the style of roof we would have 900cts for the trusses. We would like the rafter tails to be DAR so that eliminates blu-pine if we use trusses at 600cts. How do I finish the end of the pine lining, assuming I would leave a space between it and the guttering for storm surge? just get the manufacturers to make the last section of the top chord treated pine or hardwood so it can be left exposed. Could I block between the trusses to support the cantilevered tails? Any other ideas? See many exposed rafter tail design options for raftered pergolas or any other exposed rafters. Well I finally got a chance to mess w/ that project again and have achieved what I wanted thanks to your help and then a few tricks of my own. ![]() ![]() So what I am thinking is should I just get some LOSP DAR and fix it to the sides of the trusses at 600cts, or is there another way to do it if the trusses are at 900 cts. David you may remember a few weeks ago (10/14/05) that I was seeking a solution to showing exposed rafters and you suggested using strucl objects as a place to start. The gutters can be attached in several ways including brackets attached to the tails, hangers attached to the roof(under the shingles), or a 1x4 fascia board can be attached to the tails to go behind the gutter and the gutter can be attached to the board. But with the style of roof we would have 900cts for the trusses. However, half of the tail will still be exposed and you will still see the entire open rafter bay from underneath. Where exposed rafters are used with the soffit lining fixed to the underside of the purlins or, alternatively, over the rafters, there is again the possibility. The guttering will sit directly on brackets fixed to the tails. The tails will be have pine lining on top to finish the underside of the sheeting. The roof will be corrugated colorbond, blanket and a plasterboard ceiling. Another thought is maybe see if I can get him to run plywood vs osb around the perimeter, since the ply is smooth on the underside.Building a separate garage and would like to know what to do to have exposed rafters at 600 cts. Any suggestions that won't create tons of extra work for the framer/builder so that I don't see the underside of the OSB? I thought about buying some siding and gluing/nailing it up prior to the roofing going on to give the appearance of 1x material. OSB is the common roof sheathing in my area, but I don't want to see the OSB. On my house they are 1x4 material and the roof is OSB over that with the shingles of course nailed to all of that. My question comes down to the underside of the eave's along the wall. The truss's were ordered as exposed rafter tail, but I don't think that matters at all. ![]() They shouldn't be big issue to create though. I also have 4x4 wood brackets holding up the gable 'soffit'.no clue if he'll provide those or me. My rafter tails on house aren't fancy other than maybe the crown molding detail. I'm siding and I said I'd install the crown molding trim that goes between the siding and the roofline as well. All I'm paying the contractor for is a dried in shell and he will roof it as well. I asked to have the roofline match the house, which is a 1915 Craftsman Bungalow with exposed rafter tails.
